    Individual Counseling

    People can change their lives.

Making these changes can be easier and more effective with the presence of someone who can listen, question and coach people toward their goals.

In therapy with me, people get thoughtful, nonjudgmental help as they improve their lives and relationships.

Above all, it's the quality of attention and respect that I give to clients which helps them in turn to think more clearly and confidently about themselves.

I tend to offer a lightness to the task of sorting through issues that are hard to address alone.

My questions help people put words to their hopes and struggles.  By planning and then implementing step-by-step changes, clients get a more accurate idea of what is possible in their lives.

    Couples Counseling

    People can improve their relationships.

Close, committed relationships can be a satisfying source of ongoing companionship, pleasure, help and healing.  But too often we feel disappointed, alone and frustrated that the person we most hope will understand us, doesn't "get it."

Relationships deserve help through the hard spots.   I work with partners to resolve the inevitable conflicts in ways that strengthen the individuals and the couple.

When a couple comes to me, we first highlight the different needs and issues that each partner brings to the relationship. We look at what role each person plays in the "snags."  We sort out what changes need to happen and what can be done.

I help partners listen so they can try to understand as much as try to be understood, especially in areas of conflict.   Partners learn to appreciate each other more fully as they work together toward their goals.

    Drawing by Holly Jorgenson

Because I believe art is important to life, I've been making pastel drawings for many years and some of these line the walls of my office.
I think of them as encouragement to my clients to live their lives in full color.

My office is in Moontree Psychotherapy Center, 401 Wisconsin Avenue next to campus in downtown Madison.
It is two blocks from the Capitol on the corner of Wisconsin and Gorham, accessible by bus, car, bike and foot.

Although I am not on standard Unity, Dean, P+ or GHC panels, I can accept most other insurances, including The Alliance, Anthem/BCBS, Medicare and some Medicaid.
